The men's basketball team fell to top seeded Brandeis University, 75-49, on Wednesday night in the opening round of the ECAC Postseason Tournament in Waltham, MA. The Bloodhounds conclude the season with an overall record of 16-12.
Junior
Doug Levy finished the year with his team leading 18th double-double with a team-high 16 points and game-high 10 rebounds. In his final collegiate game, prolific scorer
Essien Epps recorded nine points, nine boards, and a game-high five steals. The senior finishes his illustrious career with 1,764 career points, the most in John Jay College history.
Sophomore
Kyle LaGuardia picked up nine points. Also in his last collegiate contest, senior
Jerome Petty tallied eight points and a team-high two assists.
The Judges opened the scoring with eight of the first nine points. Trailing by eight, LaGuardia made a layup and Levy knocked down two free-throws to trim the lead to 11-7.
The hosts followed on an 8-2 run until Petty sank a three-pointer with 11:11 left in the first half. Down by 14, Epps made back-to-back layups to cut the deficit to 29-19. Brandeis ended the half on a 12-1 run to head into halftime with a 45-25 advantage.
Five minutes into the second half, the Judges held a 53-33 lead. The Bloodhounds fought hard in the second half but were outscored by a margin of 30-24 in the period.
John Jay finished 17-for-60 (28.3%) from the floor, 3-for-15 (20.0%) from behind the arc, and 12-for-16 (75.0%) from the free-throw line.
This game turned out to be the final one of
Jordan Aiken,
Essien Epps, and
Jerome Petty's collegiate career. The Athletics Department wishes them the best of luck in the future!
