The women's basketball team defeated York College, 71-56, on Saturday afternoon at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds climb over the .500 mark at 12-11 overall and 8-6 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Cardinals drop to 4-20 and 3-12 in conference play.

Karen Rosario finished with her fourth double-double with a season-high and game-high 22 points, 12 rebounds, and a season-high and game-high three blocks. Freshman
Katie Healy recorded her 12th double-double with 15 points, 12 boards, and a pair of steals.

Nyasha Howard tallied 18 points, a team-high five assists, and a team-high three steals. Sophomore
Jessica Gorman registered nine points and five boards.
Down by seven, the Bloodhounds got their first basket of the game by Rosario with 4:51 left in the opening quarter. Trailing 11-4, John Jay closed the period on an 8-0 run with Rosario scoring six points to take their first lead of the contest.
Healy opened the second with a layup to increase the lead to three. With 6:52 remaining in the half, the score was tied at 18 apiece. Up by two, Rosario and Gorman nailed back-to-back baskets to go up 26-20. Healy made a jumper to end the half and give the Bloodhounds a 32-24 advantage.
Three minutes into the quarter and trailing by nine, York scored four straight. However, Healy and Howard responded with two straight layups to lead 39-30. Heading into the final period, John Jay held a 53-43 lead.
The first two-and-a-half minutes of the fourth went scoreless. The Bloodhounds quickly increased their advantage to 12 and would cruise to the conference victory.
John Jay finished 28-for-68 (41.2%) from the field, 1-for-6 (16.7%) from behind the arc, and 14-for-20 (70.0%) from the free-throw line.
The Bloodhounds travel to Brooklyn College for a conference game on Monday, February 11, at 5:00 pm.
