The baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Yeshiva University on Tuesday night at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, NY. The Bloodhounds took game one, 16-0, and then fell in the second game, 4-3. John Jay is now 5-6 on the season.
In game one, senior
Zach Hyde picked up his third win of the season after throwing a complete game and allowing three hits, three walks, and striking out nine. He also went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI. Freshman
Jake Walton finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBI's and two runs scored. Senior
Steven Catuogno and sophomore Phil Bellomo recorded a hit and a pair of RBI's each. Junior
Luis Nunez was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI's.
In game two, John Jay led 3-0 after four full innings. The Maccabees plated three in the top of the fifth to tie the game. The guests scored the game-winning run in the seventh to pick up their first win of the season.
Sophomore
Nick Jack got the start and threw seven innings, allowing nine hits, two earned runs, and struck out a career-high 11. Catuogno finished 2-for-4 with a double, triple, and two RBI's. Bellomo registered two hits and a stolen base. Freshman
Gerandy Mercado added two walks and two runs scored. Sophomore
Anthony Liriano had an RBI bases-loaded walk.
The Bloodhounds travel to Mitchell College on Saturday, March 16, for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 12:00 pm.
