The baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Fordham University in the Bronx. The Bloodhounds are now 6-9 overall. The Blue Angels are now 1-11.
In game one, senior
Steven Catuogno went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and a pair of runs scored. Senior
Zach Hyde and junior
Sean Napier each had a hit, RBI, and run scored. Hyde also swiped two bases.
In game two, New Rochelle jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third. After four-and-a-half innings, the Bloodhounds trailed 7-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, Napier tripled in a run, sophomore
Philip Bellomo picked up a sacrifice fly, and senior
Jurrel Diaz knocked in a run as John Jay cut the deficit to 7-5.
In the sixth inning, the Bloodhounds plated three runs courtesy of an RBI double by Bellomo, RBI walk by junior
Danny Wynne, and RBI hit by pitch by sophomore
Connor Kilcarr.
Wynne recorded the victory after throwing 2.1 innings in relief and allowing one hit, no runs, and struck out one.
Offensively, Bellomo finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three RBI's, and a run. Napier was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Hyde and Wynne went a perfect 2-for-2 with two walks apiece. Diaz registered two hits and an RBI.
The Bloodhounds travel to Purchase College on Saturday, March 23, for a doubleheader at 11:00 am.
