The softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against SUNY Delhi on Saturday afternoon at Fordham University in the Bronx. The Bloodhounds lost game one, 15-3, but rebounded to win game two, 12-3. John Jay is now 4-10 on the season.
In game one, the Broncos led 5-0 after two innings. In the bottom of the third, freshman
Julianne Graepel recorded an RBI triple and scored on an RBI single by freshman
Nicole Lopez. Holding a 5-3 advantage, the guests broke open the game with 10 runs in the fifth.
Sophomore
Tommi Mandell went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Lopez finished 2-for-3. Junior
Mariela Guzman registered a hit and run.
In game two, SUNY Delhi led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the second. With two outs and the bases loaded, Guzman cleared the bases with a double down the left field line. Junior
Marissa Artz brought home Guzman with an RBI infield single to give John Jay a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of the third, the Bloodhounds scored five runs courtesy of RBI's by freshman
Briana Schmidt and junior
Jessica Barbaria. In the fifth inning, Guzman delivered an RBI single and sophomore
AnneMarie Rivera ended the game with a two-run double to right center.
Barbaria, Artz, and Guzman all finished 3-for-4. Guzman also had three RBI's and Barbaria tallied two runs scored. Mandell was 2-for-3 with three runs.
Freshman
Brittany Williamson notched the win in the circle after throwing five innings and allowing seven hits, three runs, and struck out five.
The Bloodhounds host the College of New Rochelle on Friday, April 5, for a doubleheader at 3:00 pm at Randall's Island Field 16.
