Steven Catuogno Goes 4-For-4 to Lead Baseball Past Western Connecticut State 10-9; Bloodhounds Score Two Runs in Ninth Complete Comeback Victory

Trailing 9-8 in the top of the ninth, the baseball team scored two runs to defeat Western Connecticut State, 10-9, on Thursday afternoon in Danbury, CT. The Bloodhounds improve to 10-21 on the season. The Colonials drop to 5-18 overall. 

Senior Steven Catuogno led John Jay going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs, two RBI's, and a pair of stolen bases. Junior Sean Napier finished 2-for-5 with two RBI's and a run. Senior Zach Hyde reached base three times via a hit, two walks and had two runs, an RBI, and stolen base.

Senior Jurrel Diaz was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI's, run, and stolen base. Junior Juan Castillo registered a double, two runs, and two walks. 

Senior Jeremy Scheetz got the start and threw five innings. Senior Christopher Arnaud picked up the victory after throwing three innings. Sophomore Nick Jack came in to pitch the ninth and recorded the save. 

The Bloodhounds got off to a quick start with a two-run single by Napier in the first. In the top of the second, Diaz drove in Castillo and junior Danny Wynne with a single to increase the lead to 4-1. 

In the fifth, John Jay scored three runs as Catuogno picked up a two-run single and freshman Jake Walton brought home Catuogno with a sacrifice fly. The Colonials plated five runs in the bottom half of the inning to trail 7-6. 

The Bloodhounds added an insurance run in the eighth when Hyde delivered a two-out RBI single. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, the hosts scored two runs to hold a 9-8 advantage. 

In the ninth, Catuogno recorded a single for his fourth hit of the day. John Jay loaded the bases with one out and Catuogno would score the game-tying run on a wild pitch. Wynne drove in Napier with a sacrifice fly for the eventual game-winning run. 

Jack fired a scoreless bottom of the ninth to notch his second save of the season. 

The Bloodhounds travel to Lehman College on Friday, April 19, for a conference doubleheader at 12:00 pm.
