The baseball team dropped a conference doubleheader against Staten Island, 11-2 and 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in Staten Island, NY. The Bloodhounds fall to 12-26 on the year and 3-8 in the conference. The Dolphins improve to 15-20 and 7-4 in CUNYAC.
In the opening game, John Jay jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. Seniors
Zach Hyde and
Steven Catuogno and junior
Sean Napier led off with three straight hits. Junior
Danny Wynne then drove in Catuogno with an RBI ground out.
Jared Hershfield got the start and cruised through five innings. The junior was helped out with defensive highlights by the Bloodhounds in the first two innings.
CSI broke open the game in the top of the sixth with 11 runs to take game one.
Sophomore
Philip Bellomo finished 2-for-3. Hyde recorded a hit, run scored, and stolen base. Napier finished with an RBI. Freshman
Chris Meditz threw 1.1 scoreless innings.
Game two featured a pitcher's duel between Napier and CSI's Trancucci. The Dolphins scratched the game's only run in the top of the first with two outs.
John Jay was only able to muster three hits in the loss. Napier finished with his best start of the season, firing a complete game allowing six hits, one run, two walks, and struck out three.
Hyde had a hit and stolen base, his conference-high 33rd of the season. Bellomo and freshman
Jake Walton registered the other hits.
The Bloodhounds close out the season against Staten Island on Monday, April 29, at 6:00 pm at the CSI Baseball Complex.
