The baseball team snapped an eight-game losing streak when they defeated FDU Florham, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon in Madison, NJ. The Bloodhounds improve to 7-17 on the year. The Devils drop to 8-14.
The Bloodhounds scored in the opening inning when junior
Sean Napier drove in senior
Zach Hyde with an RBI ground out. The hosts tied the score at the end of one full inning.
In the top of the second, John Jay plated two runs as Hyde notched an RBI. In the bottom half of the inning, FDU Florham cut the deficit to 3-2.
With the score tied 3-3 in the fifth, sophomore
Connor Kilcarr relieved freshman
Paul Slawson. The right-hander was dominant as he record 1-2-3 innings in the fifth, seventh, and eighth.
In the top of the eighth, senior
Steven Catuogno scored the game-winning run on an RBI single by junior
Luis Nunez.
In the bottom of the ninth, FDU Florham put runners on the corners with two outs. Head coach
Joe Mandile went to
Nick Jack for the final out of the game. With the count 3-2, the sophomore got a ground out to hold on for the victory and register the save.
Catuogno finished 2-for-4 with a game-high three stolen bases. Hyde recorded a double, RBI, run, and a pair of stolen bases. Napier and Nunez picked up a hit and RBI each. Senior
Jurrel Diaz and freshman
Jake Walton each had a run scored.
Kilcarr tallied the win after firing 4.2 innings and allowing two hits, two walks, and no runs.
The Bloodhounds head into conference play this weekend when they take on City College.
