The women's tennis team pulled out a 6-3 win over Brooklyn College in the conference opener on Thursday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in CUNYAC. The Bulldogs drop to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
John Jay's first win of the day came at second doubles when the tandem of sophomore
Briana Schmidt and freshman
Kayla Hanky came out on top 8-2. At No. 3, the duo of senior
Angelica Lozano and freshman
Nikhar Rathi won by a score of 8-1. The Bloodhounds held a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.
Schmidt gave John Jay their third win after not dropping a game in the third spot. At number four, Hanky picked up her second victory of the contest 6-1, 6-1. In the fifth spot, Lozano clinched the victory for the Bloodhounds after defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-0. Rathi also collected her second win of the day in the final slot by a final score of 6-2, 6-1.
The Bloodhounds face Hunter College on Saturday, September 21, at 12:00 pm at the USTA National Tennis Center.
