Women's Soccer Loses Heartbreaker in Final Seconds of Double OT To Stockton

The women's soccer team lost a nail biter to a tough Stockton University, 2-1 in the second overtime period, on Wednesday night at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds fall to 4-4 on the year. The Ospreys improve to 8-1.

The first half went back-and-forth as both teams had scoring opportunities. Through the first forty-five minutes, the game remained scoreless. Sophomore Brittany Shaneberger made some big saves and finished with three saves. Each team had four shots in the period.

Two minutes into the second half, the Ospreys scored the first goal of the game. The Bloodhounds quickly intensified the pressure and in the 73rd minute, freshman Alexandra Dadario found a loose ball inside the box and buried it into the back of the net to even the score, 1-1.

The game would need extra time to decide a winner. In the first overtime period, Stockton recorded three shots but they were all turned away by Shaneberger. In the second extra period and with time expiring, the Ospreys scored the game-winning goal for the non-conference victory.

Shaneberger registered a season-high and match-high eight saves. Sophomore Anneliese Tucci picked up a team-high three shots. Freshman Jillian Golden notched a team-high two shots on goal.

The Bloodhounds travel to SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday, September 28, for a non-conference tilt at 12:00 pm.
