The women's soccer team outscored Manhattanville College, 3-2, on the road on Saturday afternoon in Purchase, NY. The Bloodhounds are now in the win column to improve to 1-2 on the season. The Valiants drop to 0-3 overall.
Approximately 10 minutes into the match, junior
Kristalina Banuelos made a beautiful pass to
Jillian Golden inside the box. The freshman poked it past the goalkeeper to collect her first collegiate goal and give the Bloodhounds an early 1-0 lead. Junior
Erika Estro made three saves in the first half as John Jay led by one.
Thirty-five seconds into the second, sophomore
Lily Collins blasted a shot from 30 yards out to the top left corner to increase the lead to two. Two minutes later, Manhattanville scored to cut the deficit to one.
In the 70th minute, sophomore
Katie Healy converted on a penalty kick for her team-leading third goal of the season. The Valiants scored a late goal but John Jay held on for a 3-2 victory.
Estro picked up the victory after making five saves. Healy and senior
Medina Mulic finished with three shots and two shots on goal each.
The Bloodhounds visit St. Joseph's College Brooklyn on Wednesday, September 11, for a non-conference tilt at 7:00 pm. The match will be played at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY.
