Women's Basketball Fights Hard But Falls to Staten Island; Katie Healy Records Double-Double

The women's basketball team lost to the College of Staten Island, 71-58, on Saturday afternoon at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds drop to 5-6 on the season. The Dolphins improve to 4-7.

Senior All'aha Albright led all John Jay scorers with 19 points and four rebounds. Senior Nyasha Howard registered 15 points, a season-high and game-high six steals, and five boards.

Sophomore Katie Healy notched her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, a team-high three assists, and a pair of steals. Freshman Jada Rencher added six rebounds, a career-high three steals, and two assists.

The visitors scored the first nine points of the game but a basket by junior Jessica Gorman put the Bloodhounds on the scoreboard. Trailing by 13, Albright scored five straight to cut the lead to 15-7. John Jay trailed 19-9 at the end of the first quarter. With CSI leading 25-15, Albright converted on a four-point play. The Bloodhounds went into halftime down 37-28.

Four minutes into the third period, the Dolphins increased their lead to 16 but Healy ended the run with a layup. Trailing by 15, John Jay went on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 48-39. The Bloodhounds went into the final quarter trailing 56-42.

Three minutes in, John Jay chipped at the deficit to cut the score to single digits. However, the Dolphins quickly increased the lead back to 16 and would go on to pick up the non-conference victory.

John Jay finished 19-for-65 (29.2%) from the field, 5-for-18 (27.8%) from behind the arc, and 15-for-21 (71.4%) from the free-throw line.
