Nyasha Howard Notches Triple-Double in Second Straight Game as Women's Basketball Cruises to Road Win at York College; Having Best Season in Program History at 9-2 in CUNYAC

The women's basketball team picked up its fourth straight conference victory after defeating York College, 79-52, on Friday evening in Jamaica, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 12-10 on the year and an impressive 9-2 in conference play. The Cardinals drop to 7-14 overall and 4-7 in CUNYAC. 

For the second straight game, Nyasha Howard tallied a triple-double with 14 points, a team-high 11 rebounds, a game-high 11 assists, and a career-high and game-high seven steals. The senior is now tied for the lead in NCAAIII with three triple-doubles. Senior All'aha Albright poured in a game-high 27 points to go along with six rebounds and three steals. 

Sophomore Katie Healy fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 15 points, nine boards, six steals, and three assists. Sophomore Lily Rakitzis registered 10 points, five assists, and three rebounds. Sophomore Jada Rencher grabbed seven boards to go along with nine points. 

Down 4-3 in the first, John Jay went on a 8-0 run to lead by seven. Later in the quarter, York cut the deficit as the Bloodhounds held a 14-11 advantage at the end of the first. Howard opened the second with a three-pointer and Rakitzis followed with a layup to increase the lead back up to eight. With 4:06 remaining in the half, the Cardinals trimmed the deficit down to two. John Jay went into the half leading 30-25. 

The Bloodhounds broke open the game at the start of the third with seven straight points as Albright, Healy, and Rakitzis all sank baskets. John Jay would end up outscoring the hosts 32-14 in the third period. The Bloodhounds cruised in the final quarter and are in the process of having one of its best seasons in program history. 

John Jay finished 27-for-79 (34.2%) from the floor, 6-for-23 (26.1%) from behind the arc, and 19-for-30 (63.3%) from the free-throw line. 

The Bloodhounds return to the Doghouse to host Medgar Evers College on Wednesday, February 12, at 6:00 pm.
