The baseball team lost their final three games of their spring training trip on Tuesday and Wednesday in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Bloodhounds fell to Eastern University, 22-6 and 13-12, on Tuesday. The next day, John Jay lost to Eastern Mennonite, 11-3. The Bloodhounds are now 1-8 on the season.
In the first game against Eastern, junior
Walfi Regalado went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI's. Junior
Philip Bellomo picked up two hits and a run scored. Sophomore
Gerandy Mercado blasted his first collegiate home run.
In game two, John Jay trailed 11-0 after three full innings. The Bloodhounds' offense exploded with three runs in the fourth, four in the fifth, and three in the sixth to trail 11-10. John Jay then scored a run in both the seventh and eighth innings to lead 12-11. However, Eastern tied it in the bottom of the eighth and won it in their final frame.
Bellomo recorded his first collegiate cycle finishing 4-for-6 with a double, triple, three-run homer, four RBI's, and two runs scored. Sophomore
Jake Walton was 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI's, and three stolen bases. Junior
John Vento and freshman
Raul Capellan registered two hits and two runs apiece. Senior
Sean Napier went 3-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Senior
Danny Wynne had a pair doubles.
In the final game of the trip, Regalado finished 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI's, and one run. Wynne picked up an RBI and Napier recorded two hits. Sophomores
Chris Meditz and
Marlon Hiciano and freshman
Hafel Payano all threw scoreless innings in relief.
The Bloodhounds return to New York to visit Manhattanville College on Sunday, March 8, for a single game at 5:00 pm.
