BROOKLYN, NY -- The women's tennis team stormed past Brooklyn College, 6-3, on Friday afternoon on the campus of Brooklyn College. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Bulldrops drop to 2-8 and 1-3 in the conference.
John Jay came out with two victories in doubles to lead by one heading into singles play. The tandem of junior
Briana Schmidt and freshman
Sarina Moi won at top doubles, 8-5. The rookie duo of
Dakota Himaya and
Jasmin Vargas were victorious in the third spot, 8-3.
Schmidt collected her second victory of the day after winning at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore
Nikhar Rathi earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory at number four. Vargas also picked up her second win of the afternoon at No. 6 in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Himaya went back-and-forth with her opponent but came through with a 6-2, 6-7, 10-6 victory.
With the win, John Jay moves up to third place in the CUNY Athletic Conference standings.
The Bloodhounds travel to St. Joseph's College Long Island on Sunday, October 17, for a non-conference match. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
