PATCHOGUE, NY -- The women's tennis team was defeated, 5-4, by the St. Joseph's College - Long Island Golden Eagles in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex. The Bloodhounds fall to 2-5 on the season, while the Golden Eagles improve to 4-5.
Freshmen
Dakota Himaya and
Jasmin Vargas picked up the team's first victory of the day in the third doubles spot, but the Bloodhound entered singles down 2-1.
Himaya kept rolling into singles, winning the fifth singles spot, 6-2, 6-0. Freshman
Sarina Moi and sophomore
Nikhar Rathi both won their matches in three games, in the third and fourth singles spots, respectively. Ultimately the team came up short by one point.
John Jay's next match will be on Thursday, October 21 at the USTA National Tennis Center at 4:00 pm. Before the match, the Athletics Department will honor senior
Briana Schmidt as part of Senior Day.
