FLUSHING, NY -- The women's tennis team celebrated senior day on Thursday evening at the USTA National Tennis Center with a 5-4 victory over the Yeshiva University Maccabees in a non-conference contest. With the win, John Jay improves to 3-5 on the season while Yeshiva falls to 1-7 on the year.
Freshmen
Dakota Himaya and
Jasmin Vargas got the Bloodhounds on the board with an 8-2 victory in the second doubles spot. However, John Jay entered singles trailing 2-1 in the match.
Freshman
Sarina Moi earned the Bloodhounds first singles victory, defeating her opponent, 9-1. Sophomore
Nikhar Rathi also earned a win in the third singles spot, and Vargas was able to tie up the match at 4-4 with a win in the fifth singles spot. The competition came down to a tightly-contested match between Himaya and Liana Friedman in the fourth singles spot, but Himaya was able to come out on top with a 9-7 victory, earning the win for John Jay.

The Bloodhounds return to the court tomorrow at 1 p.m. in a CUNYAC matchup against York College. This will be a preview of the quarterfinals of the CUNYAC/HSS Women's Tennis Championship which will take place on Sunday afternoon.
