NEW YORK, NY -- The men's soccer team lost to Baruch College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds drop to 1-7 on the season and 0-2 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Bearcats improve to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
John Jay made the scoresheet first as sophomore
Samson Marwieh found the back of the net in the 32nd minute to give the Bloodhounds a 1-0 lead. The header goal, Marwieh's first of the season, was off a corner kick by freshman
Kevin Luciano.
The Bloodhounds went into half with a one-goal lead. Baruch led in shots by a margin of 7-6. Sophomore
Jesus Perez registered five saves in the period.
The Bearcats opened the scoring in the second half in the 53rd minute to even the score at one apiece. Thirteen minutes later, the visitors added another goal which would end up being the game-winner. Although John Jay intensified the pressure in Baruch's backfield, the Bloodhounds couldn't tie the score as the Bearcats added an insurance goal late in the period.
Senior
Mergim Mehmeti led the squad with a team-high three shots. Perez finished with eight saves on the day.
The Bloodhounds continue conference play on Wednesday, October 6, when they visit York College at College Point Field in Jamaica, NY. First kick is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
