Yomary Cordero's First Collegiate Goal in 70th Minute Stands as Game-Winner in 1-0 Victory over Lehman

BRONX, NY -- The women's soccer team shutout Lehman College, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon with playoff implications on the line. With the victory, the Bloodhounds are now over .500 at 6-5 and stay undefeated in CUNYAC at 3-0. The Lightning fall to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

The first half was relatively even as John Jay led in shots by a margin of 4-3. Graduate student Cyan Scott made a pair of saves in the period.

The pressure intensified in the second half as both team's were looking for the first goal of the contest. In the 70th minute, junior Yomary Cordero struck for the Bloodhounds with an unassisted goal. To top it off, it was the defender's first goal of her collegiate career.

John Jay tightened up their stellar defense in the final 20 minutes to preserve the shutout for Scott, her third of the season. Junior Katie Healy and freshman Brooke Fontaine registered three shots and two shots on goal each.

The Bloodhounds close out the conference schedule on Saturday, October 23, against CCNY in a rematch of the 2019 CUNYAC Championship. First kick is at 12:00 pm at Randall's Island Field 83. Before the match, the Athletics Department will honor seniors Yomary Cordero, Jillian Golden, Katie Healy, Julia Leggett, Cynthia Madrid, Kimberly Robledo, Cyan Scott, and Mirka Villarreal as part of Senior Day.
