NEW YORK, NY - The #1 women's soccer team advanced to the CUNYAC championship for the third straight season and will look to defend it's 2019 title after cruising to a 4-0 victory over the #4 Brooklyn College Bulldogs in the semifinal match on Saturday morning at Randall's Island. John Jay's record is now 8-5 on the year, while Brooklyn finishes at 1-13.
The Bloodhounds put on their most impressive performance of the season, and one of the best performances in program history, in the biggest game of the year so far. John Jay was stout the entire 90 minutes of play, not allowing a single Bulldog shot in the match, let alone a shot on goal. The Bloodhounds kept the ball in the offensive zone for the vast majority of the game, and earned an astounding 25 corner kicks in the match. John Jay also amassed 45 shots in the game, which ranks seventh in NCAA DIII for team total shots in a game this year.
Junior
Katie Healy scored the first goal of the game for the Bloodhounds in the 30th minute, after a gorgeous corner kick from freshman
Brooke Fontaine set up Healy for a header in the box. Sophomore
Jillian Golden struck just two minutes later after a beautiful find from freshman
Leylah Murad and Healy. Other goals came from graduate student
Julia Leggett (the first of her Bloodhound career), and freshman
Ellarose Bianca (the first of her collegiate career).
The Bloodhounds will square off against #3 Lehman in the CUNYAC Championship on Saturday, November 6, at 2 pm at Brooklyn College. The winner will advance to the NCAA DIII Regionals.
