Women's Soccer Earns Second Shutout in a Row with 3-0 Victory over St. Joseph's College Brooklyn

NEW YORK, NY -- The women's soccer team completed its second straight shutout victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating the St. Joseph's College Brooklyn Bears, 3-0, at Randall's Island. With the win, the Bloodhounds improve to .500 on the season with a 4-4 record, while the Bears fall to 5-5-1.

The story of the first half was defense. Graduate student Cyan Scott tallied four first half saves, denying all four of SJCBK's shots in the period, while both teams remained scoreless.

The Bloodhound offense came alive in the second half. Junior Katie Healy opened the scoring for John Jay with her fifth goal of the season in the 62nd minute after freshman Brooke Fontaine threaded the needle to find her with a beautiful through ball. Fifteen minutes later, in the 78th minute, freshman Leylah Murad gave the Bloodhounds a 2-0 cushion after converting a penalty kick for her first collegiate goal. Fontaine came through with a dagger, putting the game out of reach with her second goal of the season in the 86th minute.

For Scott, this was her second consecutive shutout, and third of the season. She had a total of five saves on the day, as the John Jay defense only allowed a singular shot on goal in the second half. The Bloodhounds outshot the Bears, 15-9, in the game, and also had the advantage in corner kicks, 9-0.

John Jay will resume CUNYAC play on Saturday, October 16, when the Bloodhounds will host Brooklyn College at the College of Staten Island to close out a brief two-game homestand. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
