Katie Healy Selected to Represent USA DIII Women's Basketball on Brazil Tour

Katie Healy was selected to represent the United States DIII Women's Basketball team this summer as part of the Brazil Tour 2021.

"I am extremely grateful to be given this opportunity to represent my country, my family, and John Jay," said Healy. "I am looking forward to this amazing experience especially after losing a season of sports."

A two-year member of the Bloodhounds, the forward has dominated the conference and region being recognized as a two-time CUNYAC all-star. In her career, Healy averages a double-double with 17.2 PPG and 10.8 RPG. The Merrick, NY native also registered 163 steals, 106 assists, and 24 blocks. In addition, Healy also competes for the women's soccer program and is also a two-time conference all-star. 

"We are so proud and excited for Katie to have this amazing opportunity to get back on the court after a year-and-a-half without basketball," head coach Lynda Day said. "This trip will be amazing adventure not only as an athlete but more importantly as a person. I can't think of a better way for her to kick off her senior year!"

Ron Smith, Director of USA Sports Tours & Events, announced the rosters and coaches for the USA D-3 Men's & Women's Basketball Teams – Brazil Tour 2021.  The teams are made up of invited NCAA Division III basketball players from throughout the United States.  Team members have been recognized at the national, regional and conference levels. 

"This is an outstanding group of basketball players that come from eight different state and 13 different colleges and universities from across the United States.  We feel that we have some of the BEST of the BEST representing several Regions of the country.  These players have been high achievers both on the court and in the classroom.  They represent everything good that the NCAA Division III institutions have to offer."

The USA D-3 Men's & Women's Basketball Teams will begin their Brazil Tour 2021 in Orlando, Florida on July 12th.  The tour runs from July 12-21.  After team orientation in Orlando the team departs for Sao Paulo, Brazil.  The teams will practice in the city of Jundiai, Sao Paulo on Tuesday, July 13th.  The USA D-3 Basketball Teams will play a doubleheader (Men & Women) on Wednesday, July 14 in the city of Soracaba, which is in the 8th largest city in the state of Sao Paulo.  On Thursday, July 15th the USA D-3 Teams will fly to Rio de Janeiro for the remaining 6 days of the tour.

The USA D-3 Women's Team will play Mangueira in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, July 16th.  The USA D-3 Men's Team will play on Saturday, July 17th vs. Flamengo Clube.  On Sunday, July 18th both the men & women will play against Flumenense Clube.  The teams will depart Brazil on Tuesday evening July 20th and return to the USA on July 21st.

While in Brazil the teams will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits.  On Monday the TEAM will conduct a youth clinic for members of the Basquete Cruzada program.  Basquete Cruzada is a social enhancement program recognized and supported by the NBA, as well as many other organizations in Rio.  While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.  The team will visit other famous sites, including Ipanema Beach.

Healy is now the second Bloodhound to represent the US after men's basketball's Doug Levy participated during the summer of 2019.
