BRONX, NY -- The women's tennis team notched a 7-2 victory over Lehman College on Tuesday afternoon. It was the Bloodhounds' first win in 702 days. John Jay improves to 1-1 and 1-1 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Lightning drop to 1-3 and 0-1 in conference.
The Bloodhounds won two of the three doubles matches. Sophomores
Kayla Hankey and
Nikhar Rathi cruised to an 8-3 victory at No. 2. Freshmen
Dakota Himaya and
Jasmin Vargas did not drop a game in the third pairing to win 8-0.
In singles, junior
Briana Schmidt came out victories at number two, 6-0, 6-4. Freshman
Sarina Moi collected a 6-2, 6-2 win in the third slot. Himaya (No. 4) and Rathi (no. 5) did not lose a game in either set. Vargas picked up her first singles win at number six, 6-1, 6-0.
The Bloodhounds host Sarah Lawrence College on Friday, September 24, at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is set for 4:00 pm.
