NEW YORK, NY -- The men's soccer team defeated the Pratt Institute Cannoneers, 4-0, on Wednesday evening at Randall's Island. It was John Jay's first win in 693 days. With the victory, the Bloodhounds improve to 1-5 on the season while the Cannoneers fall to 0-5. It was also the first win of interim head coach
Zade Haobsh's collegiate career.
John Jay came out firing on all cylinders, as sophomore
Maksym Ivanov found the back of the net off a beautiful feed from freshman
Kevin Luciano to put the Bloodhounds in front 1-0 in the 7th minute. Two minutes prior to the end of the first half, junior
Abbas Elsayed scored to extend the Bloodhound lead to 2-0.
In the second half, John Jay continued to push the pace. Ivanov scored two more goals, coming in the 50th and 84th minute, to secure a hat trick and give the Bloodhounds a 4-0 lead which they would not relinquish.
Luciano totaled two assists in the game, while sophomore
Samson Marwieh and freshman
Andrew Daniel-Garvey each had one. Sophomore
Jesus Perez started in goal for John Jay and collected two saves.
As a team, the Bloodhounds outshot the Cannoneers, 24-9, and also had the advantage in shots on goal, 15-2. John Jay had four corners in the game while Pratt just had three.
The Bloodhounds will open CUNYAC play on Wednesday, September 29, against the City College of New York. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
