NEW YORK, NY -- The John Jay women's basketball team earned its first CUNYAC victory on Wednesday evening, defeating the Hunter Hawks, 56-46, at the Doghouse. This marks the Bloodhounds' second victory over the Hawks in their last 12 contents. With the win, John Jay improves to 6-6 (1-1 CUNYAC) on the season, while Hunter falls to 3-8 (0-2 CUNYAC) on the year.
The Bloodhounds' defense was locked in all game, holding the Hawks to just 25% shooting from the field in the entire match, and an impressive 19% shooting from the field excluding the first quarter. John Jay also forced 22 turnovers, and scored 12 points off those turnovers. Despite being outscored in the fourth quarter, the Bloodhounds built up a big enough lead to hold on and earn the victory.

Ashley Zeolla had a monster night, collecting the second double-double of her career with 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds to go with two blocks and a career-high four steals. Junior

The Bloodhounds kick off a four-game roadtrip on Saturday, January 15 with a trip to the Bronx, NY to take on Lehman College in a CUNYAC matchup. Tip-off is set for noon.
