FLUSHING, NY - The John Jay women's tennis team hosted Brooklyn College at the USTA National Tennis Center on Tuesday evening. The Bloodhounds fought hard but ultimately came up just short, as the Bulldogs were able to squeak out a 5-4 victory in the CUNYAC contest. John Jay falls to 2-6 on the season (0-3 CUNYAC), while Brooklyn improves to 2-7 (2-2 CUNYAC) on the year.
The Bloodhounds got off to a great start in doubles play, earning two points. In the second doubles spot the team of sophomore
Sarina Moi and freshman
Cindy Liguicota earned an 8-4 win, while in the third doubles spot the duo sophomore
Dakota Himaya and freshman
Kimmy Kim battled to an 8-7 victory. For Kim and Liguicota, this would mark their first collegiate victories.
Singles were a fight to the bitter end for both teams. Moi and Himaya won their matchups in the first and third singles spots quickly, giving John Jay four points of the needed five to win the match. However, the Bulldogs were able to squeeze out wins in the fourth, fifth, and sixth singles slots to even up the match at 4-4. It came down to the very last match of the night, but in three hard-fought sets, freshman
Rafaella Rybalko was defeated by Brooklyn's Veronika Tsiko.
The Bloodhounds' final CUNYAC match of the season will be on Saturday, October 15 when they will host Lehman College at the USTA National Tennis Center. The match is set to begin at noon.
