Women's Soccer Earns Second Straight CUNYAC Win; Blanks Medgar Evers On Wednesday Afternoon

New York, NY - For the second straight contest, the John Jay women's soccer kept their opponents off the scoreboard as the Bloodhounds secured an 8-0 home victory over Medgar Evers in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action on Wednesday from Randall's' Island - Field 75.

With the win, John Jay improves to 6-2-2 overall and 2-0-0 in league action while the Cougars fall to 0-2-0 on the season.

The Bloodhounds were able to grab an early 1-0 advantage as they were credited with an own goal after a Cougars player couldn't clear the ball out of the zone.

In the 7th minute, senior co-captain Katie Healy, who was recently tabbed as CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month, netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season after blasting one past Medgar's Jada Barrow off the cross by Kayla Kelly

Three minutes later, the Bloodhounds went ahead by three as Alexandria Nembhard was able to net the first goal of her season after Leylah Murad was able to spot her for the goal.

John Jay continued to apply pressure and Murad was the benefactor in the 21st minute, as she scored her third goal of the season after putting in the rebound off Samantha Polk's attempt from inside the box.

The final goal of the first half came on a perfectly crossed ball by Healy that Fatou Gibba was able to head into the back right of the net, giving the home team a 5-0 advantage.

For Gibba it marked her first goal of the season while Healy was credited with her fifth assist of the year.

John Jay wasted little time as the second half began as in the 50th minute, Ashley Goldstein was able to fire a shot past Barrow after settling the ball off the cross from Jillian Golden as the Bloodhounds upped the lead to 6-0.

Polk rectified her earlier miscue by sending home the free kick from approximately 25 yards out in the 73' as John Jay increased the lead to 7-0.

The final tally of the match came three minutes later as Mirka Villarreal notched her second goal in as many games from the cross sent by Sierra Dazhan

The Bloodhounds will look to remain unbeaten in conference tilts on Saturday, October 15, as they will travel to Brooklyn College for a noon start against the Bulldogs.
