New Rochelle, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team concludes the 2022 regular season on Saturday afternoon, falling in the final CUNYAC contest of the year, 3-1, to Baruch, at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, NY.
The Bloodhounds finish the year with a 4-10-2 overall record while posting a 3-2-2 mark in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play. The Bearcats conclude the regular season at 9-5 while remaining undefeated in league play at 7-0.
Baruch has secured the league's regular-season title after posting an 8-1 victory over York on Wednesday.
The Bearcats struck for the first goal of the match in the opening four minutes of the contest as Zyde Nawabi was able to put one past sophomore goalkeeper
Tyler Solis off the feed from Jemali Zarnadze as Baruch staked a 1-0 lead.
The Bloodhounds nearly got on the board in the 15' as
Lamarana Diallo rocketed a shot but was turned aside by Kellen Sela.
John Jay found the equalizer in the 23' as
Justin Gharbin recorded his sixth goal of the season as the Bloodhounds evened the match at 1-1.
On the ensuing Baruch possession, Nicholas Bilotti was able to shoot one past Solis for the go-ahead score as the Bearcats took a 2-1 lead in 30'.
A quarter of the way through the second half, Baruch upped its lead by two, 3-1, as Bilotti netted his second goal of the match off the feed from Daniel Grishin.
John Jay tried to rally back in the contest as Gharbin was looking for the multi-goal game, but his shot in the 66' was stopped by Sela.
Gharbin created several more chances in the later stages of the contest, but his final attempt in the 84' was turned away by Sela.
The 2022 CUNYAC Men's Soccer Championships is set to begin on Wednesday, October 26 with the semifinals to commence on Saturday, October 29 and the championships slated for Saturday, November 5 at Queens College.
