Mikayla Schoch Scores A Pair Of Second Half Goals As Women's Soccer Earns Comeback Win At CCNY

John Jay finishes the 2022 CUNYAC undefeated at 5-0

New York, NY - Trailing by a goal after the first half of play, John Jay women's soccer freshman forward Mikayla Schoch netted both the tying and game-winning goals to lift the Bloodhounds past CCNY, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon in the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) finale. 
 


With the victory, John Jay improves to 9-2-2 and remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0 while the Beavers fall to 6-2-1 and 2-1 in CUNYAC action. 

In a tale of two halves, CCNY held control of the tempo for much of the opening frame, outshooting the Bloodhounds by a 10-4 margin. 

The visitors started off strong as Lucia Giangaspero fired a shot on goal in the 15' that found the waiting arms of CCNY's Amelia Cataldo. 

Following a corner kick by Giangaspero, Schoch was able to settle the ball and boot on target, but was denied by Cataldo in the 21'. John Jay had a second chance, this time Ellarose Bianca sent the ball in from the opposite corner that found teammate Alexandria Nembhard, but her chance was turned aside by Cataldo, keeping it tied at 0-0. 

In the 28', CCNY had their first chance to get on the board as MacKenzie Moreno blasted a shot that was stopped by Alexa PyatskyThe Beavers strung together five consecutive shot attempts before cracking through on the scoreboard in the 42' as Laura Villatoro was able to push one past Pyatsky off the feed from Skylar Parker, giving CCNY a 1-0 lead. 

CCNY narrowly added a second score as Moreno blasted a shot attempt but Pyatsky was able to make the stop. Parker, who helped on the first goal, sent a shot attempt high over the goal. 

When play resumed for the second half, the momentum switched in favor of the Bloodhounds. Nembhard rocketed a shot that was stopped by Cataldo before Katie Healy sent an attempt wide of the goal. 

In the 54,' Parker was able to create a potential scoring chance for the CCNY, but her shot went wide of the goal, giving the ball back to John Jay. 

It would be four minutes later that the Bloodhounds found the right connection and tied the match at 1-1. Galicia Monforte was able to find Schoch, who beat Cataldo to even the match at 1-1. From that point, it was all John Jay, as the Bloodhounds attempted eight shots, three of which finding their way on target before Schoch added her second goal of the afternoon.

Bianca set up Schoch, who was able to once again beat Cataldo, as John Jay took the lead with just six minutes left in the contest. 

The Bloodhounds finished the contest outshooting the Beavers, 17-11, highlighted by a 13-1 advantage in the second half. Pyatasky was credited with three saves while her counterpart, Cataldo, made nine stops, five coming in the second half. 


John Jay The Bloodhounds close out the 2022 regular season on the road on Monday, October 24, as they will travel to Mahwah, NJ to take on Ramapo.
