Women's Soccer Closes Out Regular Season With Come-From-Behind Road Triumph At Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ - The John Jay women's soccer team closed out the 2022 regular season on Monday afternoon, defeating the Ramapo College Roadrunners, 2-1.

With the victory, the Bloodhounds run their overall record to 10-2-2 while the Roadrunners falter to 4-10-0.

Ramapo controlled the opening portion of the match, testing Alexa Pyatsky early and converting on their third chance. Sam Ingannamorte took the corner for the Roadrunners and found Carla Goodwin, who was able to boot one past Pyatasky to give the home team a 1-0 advantage.

John Jay created a few chances of their own. Brooke Fontaine fired a shot that went wide in the 11th minute. The Bloodhounds created another scoring chance as Katie Healy rocketed a shot, but that was stopped by Emma Conlan.

Healy created another opportunity in the 18' but that chance was also denied by Conlan. On the counterattack, Lara O'Toole tried to string the home team's second goal of the match, but Pyatsky was able to the task to make the stop.

The determined visitors got their chance for the equalizer and didn't miss it. In the 37th minute, Healy spotted Mikayla Schoch for her seventh goal of the season, which evened the match at 1-1. For Healy, it marked her eighth assist of the season and her 33rd career helper, the most in program history.

When play resumed for the second half, the intensity from both teams also ramped up. Facing a new goalkeeper from Ramapo, Leylah Murad rocketed a shot that found the waiting arms of Makenna Tahbaz.  In the 55th minute, Jessica Guccione tried to put Ramapo ahead, but Pyatsky was up to the task in keeping the match knotted at 1-1.

For the second straight game, John Jay found the game-winner in the later stages of the match. In the 76th, Galicia Monforte took the free kick that found its way into the box. Healy alertly put a foot on the ball as it went past Tahbaz, giving the visitors a one-goal advantage, 2-1, with 14 minutes left to play.

The goal for the Merrick, NY native marked her 43rd career tally, giving her 119 career points in 68 career games (43g,33a, 119 points).

The Roadrunners had two chances at the game-tying goal. In the 82nd, Guccione misfired on an attempt that sailed wide. Five minutes later, Ingannamorte's shot from the top of the box sailed high over the goal as the Bloodhounds were able to secure the victory.

The John Jay women's soccer team will turn their attention to the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) postseason, as the Bloodhounds will be the No. 1 seed and await the winner of the quarterfinals match on Saturday, October 29 at Randall's Island - Field 83 at 12:00 PM.
