FLUSHING, NY - The John Jay women's tennis team closed out the 2022 regular season in style on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the York College Cardinals, 9-0, at the USTA National Tennis Center. The Bloodhounds head into the CUNYAC Championship with a 4-9 overall mark (2-3 CUNYAC). Meanwhile, the Cardinals finish the regular season 0-4 (0-4 CUNYAC).
It was a dominant afternoon for the Bloodhounds, who will be heading into the postseason with a bit of momentum.
John Jay won all three of its doubles matchups, with the pairings of
Rafaella Rybalko/
Mia Sorrentino and
Sarina Moi/
Kenya Kissoon earning 8-1 wins, while
Dakota Himaya/
Cindy Liguicota emerged with an 8-0 victory.
The dominance continued into singles, as Moi, Rybalko, Himaya, Kisoon, and Sorrentino each won 2-0 (6-0, 6-0). Liguicota also picked up a sweep (6-3, 6-3).
John Jay will square off against #5 Lehman in the opening round of the CUNYAC Championship tomorrow, October 23. The match is scheduled to begin at noon at the USTA, and will also double as senior day for the Bloodhounds.
