Gharbin's Hat Trick Keeps Men's Soccer Undefeated In CUNYAC Play With 3-0 Win At Medgar Evers

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team remained undefeated in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action after posting a 3-0 road triumph at Medgar Evers on Saturday afternoon.
 


The Bloodhounds improve to 4-8 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference action while the Cougars fall to 0-12 and 0-4 in league play. 

"Today just adds to the recent results that we have enjoyed," commented head coach Zade Habosh. "It took a lot from our defense to hold the clean sheet and they were up to the task. On the offensive side, we are all thrilled and proud of Justin's efforts as he collected his first career hat trick. We will continue to build upon this momentum." 

John Jay's offense came off the right-foot of sophomore forward Justin Gharbin. In the 14th minute, the Brooklyn, NY native pushed one past Medgar's Louis Canola after receiving a well-executed feed from junior Michael Fernandez. 

Gharbin's afternoon wasn't done as he struck again just four minutes into the second half with Junior Guaman able to locate the second-year Bloodhound for his second goal of the contest and giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage. The former Cristo Rey Brooklyn standout capped off his first career hat trick in the 66th minute as Kevin Luciano spotted Gharbin and Gharbin did the rest. 

Today's three-goal performance by Gharbin marked the second straight year that a John Jay men's soccer player has netted a hat trick, as he joins current teammate Maksym Ivanov, who completed his three-goal outing against Pratt back on September 22, 2021.

The Bloodhounds will conclude their two-game road trip next week, beginning on Wednesday, October 12 as they travel to Lehman for a 5:00 p.m. start before wrapping up the week at Brooklyn on Saturday, October 15 at 2:30 p.m.
