New York, NY - The John Jay women's soccer team opened up CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play on Saturday afternoon with a 12-0 home victory over York College.
Before the start of the contest, the Bloodhounds recognized the 2022 Senior Class in a pregame ceremony.
It was all John Jay as the Bloodhounds didn't allow a shot attempt by the visitors while firing off a season-high 35 shot attempts, 19 of which found their way on target.
It was an even distribution of goals, as the Bloodhounds netted six goals in each half. It is the first time that John Jay has scored double-digit goals since September 20, 2017, when the Bloodhounds defeated the Cardinals, 12-0, in Queens.
The Bloodhounds got on the board first on Jillian Golden's second goal of the season after Ashley Goldstein was able to spot her on a 2-on-1 advantage.
For the Greenport, NY native, it marked her second goal of the season and 13th of her career. For Goldstein, it is her first helper of the season and the second of her career.
John Jay wasted little time as Mirka Villarreal put the club ahead by two after finishing with a well-time shot after Kayla Kelly sent a thru ball that found the foot of Villarreal.
John Jay added three straight goals in an eight-minute span with Alexa Pyatsky netting the first two scores of her collegiate career.
Both chances came as Pyatsky, who has patrolled the net primarily all season for the Bloodhounds, was able to beat the defense and put a pair of shots on goal that beat Katherine Perez as John Jay upped its lead to 4-0.
The score would swell to 5-0 nothing after Leylah Murad found the back of the net for the second time this season.
In the 38' minute of the contest, senior co-captain
Katie Healy set a new career milestone, as she became the program's all-time leading scorer, breaking a tie with former Bloodhound standout and current assistant coach,
Kimberly Robledo, with her 39th career goal, which made it 6-0 in favor of John Jay.
With the milestone goal, Healy, who has the most points in program history, stands at 39 career goals, 29 assists, and 107 points.
When play resumed for the second half, John Jay continued their offensive prowess, as
Brooke Fontaine found
Emma Fisher, who was able to finish on the right side as the Bloodhounds increased the lead to 7-0.
Moments later, the Bloodhounds struck again, this time, it was Daniela Vazquez who was able to blast a shot on the left side after Tarah Kennedy was able to spot her for John Jay's eighth goal of the match.
Fisher continued her strong afternoon, as she, along with Mikayla Schoch, located Lucia Giangaspero, who netted her first goal of the season as John Jay took a 9-0 lead.
The scored went up by double-digits in the 64th minute as Sierra Dazhan got on the scoresheet, recording her first collegiate goal as Giangaspero was credited with the assist.
In the 67th minute of the game, Morgan DeGlopper notched her second goal of the year.
The scoring came to a close when Kennedy converted on a penalty kick as the Bloodhounds cruised to their first conference win of the season.
The Bloodhounds return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 12, as they will host Medgar Evers at 4:00 p.m. from Randall's Island - Field 75.
