Women's Basketball Wins Second Straight Contest; Defeats Rutgers-Newark 92-69

Four Bloodhounds reach double-figures with Healy and Green recording double-doubles

New York, NY - The John Jay women's basketball team held a nine-point lead at halftime and when play resumed, opened the third quarter on a 16-0 as the Bloodhounds picked up their second straight win, 92-69, over Rutgers-Newark on Monday evening at the Doghouse.
 
 
Four John Jay players finished in double-figures, led by Katie Healy, who poured in a game-high 23 points on 10 of 20 shooting while registering her sixth double-double of the season, grabbing 15 rebounds. The Merrick, NY native filled the stat sheet, adding four assists, four steals and a block in 32 minutes of action. 
 
Bobbi Green also recorded a double-double, her third of the year, as the Queens, NY guard tallied 18 points on 8 of 15 shooting while matching Healy with 15 caroms. Green dished out a team-high six helpers in 33 minutes of play. 
 
Ayanna Edwards and Tiffany Boggle contributed 14 and 10 points, respectively, on a combing 8 of 13 shooting from the field with Bogle grabbing six rebounds and leading the team with three blocks. 
 
Rutgers-Newark had three players score in double-figures, led by Lourdes Marasigan, who had 18 points on 7 of 12 shooting. 
 
Syncere Lambert tallied 17 points on 7 of 14 shooting while dishing out five assists in her 35 minutes of action. 
 
Ebony Odom Barnes netted 12 points and led the Scarlet Raptors with nine rebounds in 30 minutes of play. 
 
Rutgers-Newark opened the contest on a 5-0 run after Marasigan connected on a corner three-pointer. Green got the Bloodhounds on the board with three points before Healy drilled a jumper from the left wing to even the game at 5-5. 
 
The two teams were evenly matched down the stretch of the first quarter, as John Jay outscored the visitors, 19-15, over the final seven minutes in taking a 24-23 lead. 
 
 
In the second quarter, both teams continued to be at a stalemate, with the lead not getting past one over the first five minutes of the frame. John Jay went up three after Healy was able to convert on a layup at the 3:40 mark. 
 
From that point, the Bloodhounds closed out the stanza on an 8-0 run as Green was able to net her 14th point of the contest on a layup as John Jay went into the break with a nine-point lead, 46-37. 
 
 
When play resumed for the second half, it was all Bloodhounds in the early portion of the third quarter, as they sparked a 16-0 run over a 4:21 span that saw the lead swell to 62-37 after Bogle banked home two off the feed from Chayanne Kelly
 
John Jay held the visitors to 0 of 6 shooting from the field while forcing three turnovers. Jordyn Ruiz was the catalyst during this run, scoring six of the 16 points. The visitors stopped the run as Lambert was able to dial up a three-point from the top of the key. 
 
Rutgers-Newark concluded the quarter with a 12-4 run of their own with Lambert accounting for nine of the 12 points as the Scarlet Raiders trailed by 17, 66-49.
 
 
John Jay pushed the lead back to 20 after Ashley Zeolla hit one of two from the free-throw line in the opening moments of the fourth quarter. The Bloodhounds tacked on 21 of the game's final 39 points to come away with their second straight victory. 
 
John Jay finished the game shooting 50.0 percent from the field (36 of 72) while only converting two three-pointers in the contest. The Bloodhounds held a 53-31 advantage on the glass, which included a 34-21 edge on the defensive end. 
 
John Jay closes out the homestand on Saturday, December 10 when they welcome Gwynedd Mercy to the Doghouse for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.
