NEW YORK, NY - The men's basketball team scored 48 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough to come from behind and take down York College who went on to win 91-78 on Sunday afternoon at the Doghouse. John Jay drops to 10-13 (7-6 CUNYAC) on the season, while York improves to 11-10 (9-4 CUNYAC) on the year.
It was a slow start to the first half for the Bloodhounds, scoring only 12 points in the first 12 minutes. However, John Jay battled back and cut the deficit to just 11 points at the break. In a fast paced second half, the Bloodhounds poured in 48 points to get back into the game. A three-pointer from sophomore
Corey Jones Jr. at the 15:57 mark cut the deficit to just six points, but that would be as close as John Jay would get as the Cardinals held on for the victory.
Sophomore
Garrison Watkins notched his second double-double in a row with 18 points and a career-high 12 assists. Junior
Angel Rivera scored a game-high 22 points to go with four rebounds and two assists. Jones Jr. knocked down four threes for 12 points. Sophomore
Dan Kenny and freshman
Isaac Holmes were also in double figures, with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
