NEW YORK, NY - The women's basketball team honored its four exceptional seniors and finished the regular season strong, earning a 72-57 victory over Baruch College on Tuesday night at the Doghouse. With the win, John Jay closed the 2021-22 regular season with a 14-8 (9-3 CUNYAC) record and clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Women's Basketball Tournament. Baruch finished the regular season with a 9-10 record (7-4 CUNYAC).
The Bearcats led early in the first quarter and saw their lead reach as high as seven points before the end of the period. However, the Bloodhounds closed the quarter on an 11-3 run capped by a layup from junior
Katie Healy to take an 18-17 lead. John Jay saw its lead grow to 10 points, thanks to a 16-0 run that spanned the end of the first half and early into the third quarter, which signaled trouble for the Bearcats. Freshman
Ayanna Edwards nailed a three-pointer to give John Jay a 17-point lead late in the third to put the icing on the cake as the Bloodhounds held on for the win.
Three Bloodhounds had double-doubles in the game which is an impressive accomplishment. Healy had a monster double-double collecting 20 points, 16 rebounds, and five steals. Junior
Bobbi Green scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while dishing out three assists. Freshman
Ashley Zeolla scored 13 points and also snagged 11 rebounds. Freshman
Jordyn Ruiz was also in double-figures with 11 points and six rebounds. Freshman
Ayanna Edwards chipped in eight rebounds, five points, and four assists.
John Jay will play host to CCNY in the first round of the CUNYAC Championship on Sunday, February 20. Tip-off is currently set for noon. The game will be streamed via
