BROOKLYN, NY -- The baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to St. Joseph's College Brooklyn on Friday afternoon at Maimonides Park. The Bloodhounds outhit the Bears, 9-8, on the day, but ultimately came up short in both games. John Jay lost game one, 4-0, and then went on to lose game two, 7-3. The Bloodhounds fall to 0-8 on the season, while SJC Brooklyn improves to 2-4 on the year.
John Jay's pitching staff allowed just one hit in game one, but walks came back to haunt them. The Bears scored all four of their runs in the third and fourth inning after the Bloodhounds walked the bases loaded with nobody out in each frame. John Jay's offense never really got going and they dropped the contest.
The Bloodhounds went down 6-0 quickly in game two, but the offense came to play this game. They scored their first run of the game on a wild pitch in the fourth inning, then freshman
Michael Mauro followed that up with an RBI single. John Jay cut the deficit to three after an RBI double from freshman
Ivan Massari the next inning, but that would be the last run the Bloodhounds could push across on the day.
The Bloodhounds will have another shot at picking up their first win of the season on Sunday, March 13 when they hit the road to take on Old Westbury in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
