America Rivera Collects Two Hits and Two RBIs in Softball's Non-Conference Loss to New Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, NJ -- The softball team lost a non-conference contest, 12-8, to the New Jersey City Gothic Knights on Tuesday afternoon at Thomas M. Gerrity Park in Jersey City. The Bloodhounds fall to 1-4 on the season while the Gothic Knights improve to 6-9.

John Jay took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning after a run scored on a wild pitch, but New Jersey City rallied for four runs in the bottom of the third. After trading runs the next couple innings, a six-run bottom of the sixth for the Gothic Knights put the game out of reach despite a late Bloodhound rally in the seventh.

Sophomore America Rivera had a big day, smacking two hits, driving in two runs, and scoring a run. Sophomore Alisha Cherian had an RBi triple and scored a run. Freshman Rylea Sandel had two hits and a run scored. Freshman Angelina Schoelles went 2-3 with an RBI. Freshman Mackenzie Tresch also had two hits. The Bloodhounds as a team had 11 hits and five walks.

John Jay will look to bounce back on Thursday, March 31 when they travel to Langhorne, PA to take on Cairn University. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
