Julianne Graepel Tosses No-Hitter with 14 Strikeouts as Softball Cruises Past Yeshiva

RIDGEFIELD, NJ -- The softball team broke out in a big way on Wednesday night, putting on its best performance of the early 2022 season with a 14-0 victory over Yeshiva at Overpeck Park. With the win, John Jay improves to 2-4 on the season, while Yeshiva drops to 0-7 on the year.

In an absolutely magnificent performance, and the best of her career, Junior Julianne Graepel fired a no-hit gem, piling up 14 strikeouts in just five innings and allowing only one walk. The Bloodhounds would score 14 runs in the game, and went on to mercy the Maccabees in five innings.

The Bloodhounds opened the scoring in the top of the second, when junior Nicole Lopez plated a run with an RBI single. John Jay tacked on three more runs in the third inning, then broke the game wide open in the fourth inning. Freshman Rylea Sandel smacked a two-run inside-the-park homer to extend the lead to 6-0, and then a few batters later freshman Angelina Schoelles blasted a three-run homer to make it 9-0. John Jay would score one more in the frame, and then four more runs in the fifth, to secure the victory.

Besides the stellar showing on the mound, Graepel also reached base safely three times, on three walks, stole a base, and scored three runs. Lopez was the lone Bloodhound to tally two hits, while also scoring two runs and stealing a base. Besides the homer, Sandel scored three runs and stole a base on the day. Freshman Madison Gil walked twice and scored two runs.

John Jay will look to make it two in a row tomorrow when they return to the field against Cairn University. First pitch is at 3 p.m. in Langhorne, PA.
