CHESTER, NY -- The softball team split a CUNYAC doubleheader with the Baruch Bearcats on Tuesday evening at Frozen Ropes in Chester, NY. The Bloodhounds won a back and forth affair in game one, 7-6, before dropping game two, 7-2. John Jay moves to 6-9 (3-3 CUNYAC) on the season while Baruch moves to 11-10 (5-2 CUNYAC) on the year.
Baruch took a quick 3-0 lead in the first game of the day, but the Bloodhounds plated four runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by an RBI triple by freshman
Jordyn Prince, to take the lead. The Bearcats answered with two runs in the fourth to re-take the lead, but John Jay moved back in front in the bottom on the fourth on a three-run homer from freshman
Rylea Sandel. That would be enough as the Bloodhounds held on for the victory. Baruch led wire-to-wire in game two, despite a late comeback attempt by the Bloodhounds in the 7th inning that came up short despite another homer from Sandel.
Freshman
Angelina Schoelles had three hits on the day, scoring two runs. Sandel homered twice on the day, driving in five runs and scoring three. Freshman
Alisha Cherian had three hits, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Sophomore
America Rivera earned the win in game one, pitching a complete game and striking out one.
The Bloodhounds are back at it tomorrow, hosting a doubleheader at Brooklyn College against the Bulldogs. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
