NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The softball team went to battle against Baruch College in a doubleheader on Tuesday evening up in Westchester County. John Jay's offense lifted the Bloodhounds to an 8-5 victory in game one, but the Bearcats walked off with a 9-8 win in game two. John Jay moves to 9-15 (6-6 CUNYAC) on the year, while Baruch goes to 16-10 (10-2 CUNYAC) on the season.
Junior
Julianne Graepel started game one, and pitched all seven innings allowing just three earned runs and striking out five. The Bloodhounds struck first, as freshman
Rylea Sandel smacked an inside-the-park two-run homer in the first inning to give the Bloodhounds the lead. That lead grew to 5-0 in the second inning after freshman
Mackenzie Tresch drove in a run, followed by a 2-RBI double from Sandel. John Jay scored three more runs in the fifth inning, thanks to an RBI double from freshman
Emily Sperl and a 2-RBI double from freshman
Bernadette Kish. Despite a late rally from the Bearcats, including two runs in the fifth and seventh innings, John Jay held on for the win.
Baruch fought back quickly in game two, and looked to be in control early after plating three runs in the third inning. Both teams scored one more run, leading to a 4-1 Baruch lead heading into the top of the sixth. John Jay came alive in the frame to score six runs, highlighted by an RBI single from Tresch, and take the lead. However, Baruch answered with four runs in the sixth to move back in front 8-7. Sophomore
Summer Parks tied the game with a clutch RBI single in the top of the seventh, but unfortunately the Bearcats would walk it off in the bottom of the frame. Sophomore
