NEW YORK, NY - The John Jay women's soccer team took on Sarah Lawrence under the lights at Randall's Island on Tuesday evening. The two teams battled hard for 90 minutes, which resulted in a 1-1 draw. The Bloodhounds and the Gryphons both move to 2-1-1 on the season following the match.
The first half of the contest was a defensive battle, as the two teams combined for just two shots and one shot on goal. Graduate student goalkeeper
Alexa Pyatsky made a nice save on the Gryphons lone shot on goal in the 39th minute.
The Bloodhounds struck first just two minutes into the second half, as graduate midfielder
Kayla Kelly netted her second career goal after a beautiful feed from freshman
Alexandria Nembhard. Unfortunately, just 13 minutes later, Sarah Lawrence answered with a goal of its own to even up the match at 1-1.
The Gryphons would have a few more good chances in the second half, but the Bloodhound defense and Pyatsky kept them off the scoreboard which would eventually result in the draw.
John Jay will look to get back in the win column on Saturday, September 17 when they will travel to Pennsylvania to take on Cedar Crest College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
