Seven-Goal Performance Powers Men's Soccer To First Win Of 2022 Over Medgar Evers

Brooklyn, NY - Sophomore forward Hans Merilan had a career afternoon as he helped anchor an offensive outburst, as the John Jay men's soccer team blanked Medgar Evers College, 7-0, on Wednesday.

The Bloodhounds erupted for five first-half goals, the most goals scored in a first half since netting six against Valley Forge back on nearly three years ago to the day (9/22/2019).

John Jay scored quickly, as Merilan was able to put one past Louis Caiola three minutes into the contest, as the visitors went ahead, 1-0.

The visitors went ahead by two as Kevin Luciano was able to bury one off the feed from Brayan Alvarez

Following a stop by Tyler Solis on Taye Simon's shot attempt, Abbas Elsayed was able to convert on a scoring chance that upped the lead to 3-0 in favor of John Jay.

Two minutes later, Merilan scored his second goal of the match and of his career, unassisted, as John Jay took a 4-0 advantage.

With a little over ten minutes, Michael Fernandez capped off the first-half goal scoring, finishing the give and go between he and Junior Guaman as John Jay took a 5-0 lead.

In the 67th minute of the contest, the Bloodhounds were awarded a penalty kick and Andrew Daniel-Garvey was able to beat the netminder as the visitors now had a 6-0 advantage.

At the 75th mark, Fernandez returned the favor to Guaman, who netted the seventh goal of the contest.

The Bloodhounds outshot the Cougars, 18-9. Solis was credited with five stops on the night.

John Jay will look for back-to-back wins on Saturday afternoon, as the Bloodhounds welcome Bryn Athyn to Randall's Island - Field 10.

Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
