NEW YORK, NY -- The women's soccer team kicked off the 2022 season on Saturday afternoon with a bout against the Saint Joseph's Brooklyn Bears at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Bears thanks to a dominant offensive first half and an incredible defensive performance throughout the game. John Jay improves to 1-0 on the season while the Bears fall to 0-1 on the year.
Freshman
Mikayla Schoch jumpstarted the John Jay offense with her first career goal in the 32nd minute to give the Bloodhounds a 1-0 lead. Sophomore
Brooke Fontaine extended the lead to 2-0 after she found the back of the net on a free kick from about 35 yards out. Just two minutes later, Senior
Katie Healy made it 3-0 with another goal after a beautiful feed from freshman
Lucia Giangaspero, and the Bloodhounds took that lead into halftime. John Jay's defense continued to dominate throughout the second half, holding the Bears scoreless, while a goal from graduate student
Kayla Kelly made the score 4-0, which would be the end result.
The Bloodhounds will be back at it on Wednesday, September 7 when they will return to Randall's Island to take on Rutgers-Newark at 4 p.m.
