Women's Basketball Picks Up Third Straight Win At Medgar Evers, Katie Healy Moves To Third On All-Time Career Scoring List

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay women's basketball team upped their winning to three straight after posting an 80-32 road triumph at Medgar Evers on Wednesday evening.

With the win, John Jay improves to 10-7 on the season and 4-2 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play while the Cougars fall to 2-12 and 0-5 on in league play.

"A wire-to-wire team win tonight as we got contributions from everyone," commented head coach Lynda Day. "Our bench play was pivotal, especially Gillian (Powell), gave us a great effort not only on the boards, but running the floor and converting."

The Bloodhounds had four players score in double-figures, led by Kamryn Hammond, who poured in a game-high 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the field while hitting on 4 of 7 from three-point range in 22 minutes of play.

Gillian Powell registered her second double-double of the season, as she finished with 13 points and a team-leading 15 rebounds in 21 minutes of action. The Warren, OH native hit on 6 of 9 from the field and added two assists and two steals.

Katie Healy was the third Bloodhound to reach double-figures, as the veteran forward finished with 12 points and seven rebound on a 6 of 14 shooting display.

The Merrick, NY native reached a personal milestone on the evening, as she moved into sole possession of third place on the all-time John Jay women's basketball scoring list, surpassing former Bloodhound great, December Bails, as Healy now stands at 1,421 career points after her performance this evening.

"We are so proud of Katie for her amazing milestone as she continues to etch her name in John Jay history," added Day.

With her seven rebounds on the evening, Healy needs just seven more to reach the 1,000-career carom mark.

Bobbi Green was the fourth John Jay player to score double-digits, filling up the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds, seven steals, three assists in 18 minutes of action.

Shelly Quezada narrowly posted a triple-double for Medgar Evers, scoring 15 points, grabbing 19 rebounds while swatting away eight shots. She added four assists and a steal while playing the full forty.

John Jay held a commanding 23-3 advantage after the first quarter. At the 4:30 mark of the second quarter, Healy reached the milestone moment, going coast-to-coast on a fastbreak layup off the defensive rebound.

The women's basketball team will look for their fourth straight win on Saturday, as the Bloodhounds return home to the Doghouse to square off against Baruch.

Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
