Men's Volleyball Drops Season Opener At Drew On Thursday

Madison, NJ - The John Jay men's volleyball team commenced its 2023 regular season on the road on Thursday, falling to Drew University, 3-0 (10-25, 17-25, 19-25).
 
Stephen Daly and Logan Ramos led the way for the Bloodhounds (0-1) with four kills each. Daly paced the club with six digs while Ramos tallied four digs. Newcomer Maxwell Law added a team-leading ten assists in the contest. Jack Nugent and Alex Bridelall each notched two blocks on the night for John Jay. 
 
C.J. Addeo led the Rangers with eight kills while Omarf Ortega-Reyes notched 14 assists and seven aces. Jacob Sledz led the way with a game-high 13 digs followed by Bryan Do with nine. 
 
John Jay took an early 2-1 lead following an attack error by Ephraim Smith but Drew used a 12-2 run to take a nine-point lead, 13-4.  The Rangers closed out the first set scoring 12 of the final 15 points in taking a 1-0 lead in the overall match. 

The Bloodhounds kept pace with Drew to start the second set, going up 3-0 after an attack error by Jacob Siedz.  Drew posted a 12-3 run in taking a 12-6 lead before a service error gave possession back to the Bloodhounds. 
The visitors narrowed the gap to within four, 15-11, following an attack error by Ortega-Reyes. Drew finished the second set on a 10-6 run to go ahead 2-0 in the match. 

In the third set, the Bloodhounds trailed 7-0 to start before Singh killed the rallied, which kick started an 18-17 outburst, closing the gap to five, 24-19 following an attack error by Ortega-Reyes. 
Barend Oostdam sealed the match for Drew with a kill. 

The Bloodhounds will gear up for their home opener on Thursday, February 2 when they will host Sarah Lawrence at 7:00 p.m.
