NEW YORK, NY -- The women's basketball team lost to York College, 60-50, on Friday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds drop to 7-7 on the season and 1-2 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Cardinals improve to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Senior
Katie Healy notched her ninth double-double of the season with a game-high 19 points, team-high 12 rebounds, three assists, and a team-high three steals. Sophomore
Ashley Zeolla fell two rebounds shy of her first double-double of the year with 11 points, eight rebounds, and a pair of steals. Sophomore
Ayanna Edwards came off the bench to dish out a team-high five assists to go along with seven points, six boards, and two steals.
The first six-and-a-half minutes went back and forth as a layup from junior
Kamryn Hammond tied the score at nine apiece. In John Jay's final possession of the quarter, Zeolla converted a layup to cut the deficit to 16-15 at the end of the first.
Three minutes into the second, the visitors increased their lead to seven. Down by six with 30 seconds on the clock, Edwards drained a three-pointer as the Bloodhounds went into the half trailing 30-25 with Healy registering 11.
Two free-throws by Healy in the third quarter trimmed the lead down to four. Trailing 37-31 with 6:22 left, the Bloodhounds went on a 6-0 run courtesy of two points each by Zeolla, Healy, and sophomore
Gillian Powell to even the score. The Cardinals ended the period on a 6-3 run to take a 47-44 advantage heading into the fourth.
The guests quickly increased the lead to five but a layup by Healy and a pair of free-throws by Zeolla trimmed the deficit to 49-48 with 6:05 remaining. However, York responded with seven straight points and would go on to pick up the road victory.
The Bloodhounds travel to Hunter College on Wednesday, January 11, for a conference match starting at 5:00 pm.
