Women's Tennis Win Streak Halted By St. Joseph's University - Long Island On Sunday Afternoon

Flushing, NY - The John Jay women's tennis team saw their three-match win streak come to a close on Sunday afternoon, as the Bloodhounds fell to the St. Joseph's University (LI) Golden Eagles, 8-1, at the USTA National Tennis Center.

With the setback, the Bloodhounds fall to 3-2 on the season while the Golden Eagles move to 3-1.

"All credit to an exceptionally well-coached St. Joseph's program on a terrific match," commented John Jay women's tennis head coach David Muchnick. "It's been a few weeks since our last loss but, I was encouraged after that result on how we bounced back and won the next three matches. I'm looking forward to seeing how we'll respond after today with three more matches this week over the next five days," added Muchnick.

St. Joseph's University took all three doubles matches, but the Bloodhounds fought valiant in each of them. The tandem of Antigone Alexander and Dakota Himaya rallied in No. 1 doubles before Natalie Kopala and Morgan Wind went on to post an 8-4 win.

At No. 2 doubles, the pairing of Sarina Moi and Cindy Liguicota narrowly completed the comeback over Victoria Corcoran and Madi Beatty but were edged 8-6.

In No. 1 singles, Alexander dropped the first (6-0) but regrouped to earn a 6-4 triumph in the second set. In the third and deciding set, Alexander continued to rally through but Kopala was able to secure the match, 10-4.

Moi earned the lone triumph for John Jay on the afternoon, as she defeated Angela Martinez, 6-0; 6-1, at No. 2 singles. For Moi, it marked her 15th career singles win as a Bloodhound.

John Jay resumes CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play this Tuesday, as the Bloodhounds travel to Jamaica to tangle with York College.

First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
