Women's Tennis Earns 7-2 CUNYAC Victory Over York On Tuesday Afternoon

Jamaica, NY - The John Jay women's tennis team moved to 2-0 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action as they defeated the York College Cardinals, 7-2, on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 4-2 on the season while the Cardinals falter to 0-5 on the season and 0-4 in league play.

Today's win over the Cardinals extended John Jay's win streak over York to 11 straight wins, which dates back to September 10, 2013.

"What a nice bounce back match for our program this afternoon against a spirited and well-organized York team," commented head coach David Muchnick. "I was especially excited about the play of Manuela Orrego, Gloria Glenn, Cindy Lliguicota and Riya Shah. They each picked up some big wins and showed great hustle on nearly every point."

The Bloodhounds took two of three in doubles play, as the pairing of Sarina Moi and Cindy Lliguicota blanked Emperatriz Cesar and Julia Wyman, 8-0, at No. 1.

The duo of Dakota Himaya and Gloria Glenn posted an 8-1 triumph over Bisola Babanuma/Abena Opoku at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Moi and Himaya earned identical 6-1; 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 play, respectively. Lliguicota posted a 6-2; 6-3 win at No. 3 over Opoku.

Gleen blanked Dawa Bhote, 6-0; 6-0 while Orrego earned her first career singles victory, a 6-4; 7-5 victory over Jamelia Jordan at No. 5 play.

The Bloodhounds will be in action on Friday, October 6, as they host UMass Dartmouth under-the-light at the USTA National Tennis Center.
