Bloodhounds Secure Third Straight CUNYAC Win with Midweek Shutout over Medgar Evers

New York, NY - The sun shone bright on Randall's Island and the John Jay men's soccer team Wednesday afternoon, as the Bloodhounds recorded a second straight clean sheet in CUNYAC play. Three different goal scorers inked a spot on the scoresheet as John Jay dropped Medgar Evers, 4-0.

The win moves the Bloodhounds to 5-6-1, and 3-1-1 in CUNYAC play, on the season.

John Jay struck first in the 17th minute as Brayan Alvarez scored his second of the season with a shot from the left just outside of the box. Bloodhounds keeper Tyler Solis was called into action for just one save in the opening 45 minutes as the home team took a 1-0 lead to the break.

Less than nine minutes into the second half, John Jay doubled its advantage. The team's second-leading scorer, Justin Gharbin, stood over the ball from 20 yards out and curled a ball into the top corner of the net for a 2-0 lead. The goal is his fifth of the season.

In the 63rd minute, Alvarez struck again off a feed from Daniel Rosa. The midfielder charged in from the left side of the box and slid the brace into the bottom corner for his third goal of the season.

The Bloodhounds' leading scorer retook his place atop of the CUNYAC goal standings with his seventh goal of the season just two minutes later. Kevin Luciano took possession in the 18-yard box, dekeing left to right to create separation from the Medgar Evers defense and slotting away his seventh of the season so far.

With 75 minutes elapsed, Solis exited his box with three saves and was replaced by Kelvin De La Cruz donning the pink kit for the first time. De La Cruz was called into action a minute into his stint in net, corralling a shot from the Cougars' Belco Guendeba off a corner kick. The save is the first of his collegiate career.

The Bloodhounds finished the day with a 4-0 win.

NEXT UP: John Jay returns to Randall's Island on Saturday, Oct. 14 to host Lehman College for a battle of unbeaten teams in CUNYAC play. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
